The Perfect Storm is Upon Us

The “Perfect Storm” is a term used to describe a confluence of events or circumstances that, by themselves would not necessarily create a problem, but combined, can have an unimaginable destructive force. Jesus described this “Cultural Perfect Storm” in Matthew 24; He said,

“Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. (Matthew 24:5-8, NIV).”

Any one of these events Jesus describes might be difficult to endure but to have them take place at the same time would be overwhelming and potentially catastrophic. This nation has been able to endure some of the most difficult singular events from world wars to 911. However, I believe we are headed into a perfect storm like we have never seen before. Jesus describes a 5-fold storm of religious deception, War, World Chaos, Food shortage and natural disaster. Any one of these is a challenge; combined at the same time, it will shake us to our very core.

Current news reads like a page of prophetic scripture; An increasingly “Public, Anti- God” position, a North Korean time bomb, nations who are in a constant war of words with each other, multiple natural disasters and a resulting impact on food supply and prices are not another historical coincidence. The biblical pattern of God’s call to repentance has always been these things as God will touch specific regions of land first, hoping to get our attention before the entire nation is affected. (Joel 1)

No one can deny the religious challenges of a culture that has drifted from a biblical world view to a humanistic, self-centered perception of God. However, I don’t believe people dislike or even deny the existence of God as much as they are rebelling against the Jesus we have portrayed and are weary of a church that has nothing more to offer than a plastic Christ on a dashboard or a bumper sticker that suggests we love Jesus by blowing our horn. Anyone can claim spiritual authority and there are many looking for someone or something to follow, just to fill the void of life on the inside. However, genuine, supernatural power demolishes all the arguments of culture and gives God back the glory he deserves. More than words, the power of God brings the fear of the Lord and turns people’s attention back to heaven. It is this kind of power we are going to see in America.

This “Perfect Storm” is not being sent to destroy us but to prepare and destine us to a fulfillment of global awakening. What we are seeing right now is a prophetic picture of the entire creation and all of nature groaning for the return of Christ and the manifestation of the sons of God.

As we patiently wait for his glory, let’s turn our eyes upward, beyond what we can see naturally and into a realm where perfect peace controls our lives, around a throne and Kingdom that has no rival- The Kingdom of our God and of His Christ.
